9 Antifungal Herbs To Get Rid Of Yeast Infection.
Yeast infection, also known as Candida infection, affects the moist areas of the body such as the mouth and the genitals. The Candida yeasts that normally live on the mucous membranes without causing infection sometimes overgrow leading to development of symptoms of yeast infections. Traditionally, yeast infection is managed with the help of herbs with anti fungal properties. Apart from acting directly on the pathogens and destroying them, herbs help in strengthening the immune system, which helps in clearing the infection naturally.
1. Garlic.
Garlic is one of the best known herbs for fighting yeast infection. The main anti fungal compounds in garlic are allicin and allin that help in killing the harmful yeasts and inhibit yeast overgrowth. To fight yeast infection, take two cloves of fresh or aged garlic daily. Topical application of crushed garlic or garlic oil to the area of the skin infected by yeasts can help in clearing the infection.
2. Gymnema Sylvestre.
Gymnemic acids, the main active compounds of the herb gymnema sylvestre, are known for their powerful anti fungal property. Studies suggest that gymenmic acids help in blocking the molecules produced by the yeasts that aid colonization of the microorganisms, leading to yeast infection. Furthermore, gymnema sylvestre helps the immune system in destroying the pathogens.
3. Goldenseal.
Goldenseal contains an alkaloid called berberine, which is known for its potent anti-fungal property. Goldenseal is usually taken in the form of capsules and tinctures to fight yeast infection. Berberine helps in fighting the yeast infection in two ways. It helps in stimulating production of macrophages, the specialized white blood cells that help in destroying the pathogens. It also helps in increasing production of other immune cells for fighting the infection.
4. Olive Leaf.
Olive leaf is a powerful anti-fungal herb. To fight yeast infection, take olive leaf extract or tea prepared with olive leaves three times a day. To reduce yeast infection of the skin, apply olive leaf infused alcohol to the infected area.
5. Black Walnut.
Black walnut husk contains juglone, a potent antifungal that helps in fighting yeast infection. It is known to help in oxygenating the blood, thereby creating an environment unsuitable for yeast overgrowth. Furthermore, it helps in speeding up elimination of toxic wastes produced by the pathogens from the blood.
6. Azadirachta Indica.
The leaves of Azadirachta indica, commonly known as neem, help in killing the harmful yeasts. They can be taken internally or used topically to help clear the infection. When ingested, the bitter constituents of the leaves help in reducing the concentration of sugar in the blood, thereby helping in reducing the food supply to the yeasts. Furthermore, they help in breaking down the outer membrane of the yeasts that helps in destroying the microbes.
7. Pot Marigold.
Pot marigold, also known as calendula, is known to help in fighting yeast infection. When taken internally, it helps in inhibiting yeast overgrowth in the gut. For relief from yeast infection, take infusion of pot marigold or few drops of pot marigold tincture diluted in water.
8. Rosemary.
The fungicidal action of rosemary helps in destroying the excess yeast cells. Furthermore, the diuretic effect of the herb helps in flushing out the microbes and the toxins produced by them from the body, thereby helping in reducing risk of recurrent yeast infections.
9. Thyme.
Thyme is known for its antifungal property that helps in fighting the stubborn yeast infection. Regular intake of thyme decoction helps in suppressing yeast overgrowth. When thyme decoction is applied to the skin, tannin present in thyme helps in building a protective barrier on the skin that helps in stopping the yeasts from penetrating the skin.
