Gynostemma, also called jiaogulan, is a green leafy herb that became famous as a legendary infused “immortality tea” among certain isolated highland villages populations of southern China. This is a location where the plant naturally grows wild and where people were reported to live healthy long lives from daily consumption. Because of its remote use, it has only just recently been introduced into the Chinese herbal system and is now a popular hot tea to drink throughout Asia for its energizing and anti-fatigue effects, often used as a replacement for coffee and caffeinated teas. Containing saponin gypenosides and other constituents that exhibit antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and immune modulating properties, it is often compared to that of ginseng for its unique qualities.

GOLDEN MILK BENEFITS
====================
The benefits of drinking golden milk exist thanks to its main ingredient, turmeric. Turmeric is fat-soluble so it is best when eaten or drunk with a source of fat to aid in absorption. Adding a pinch of pepper is said to increase the bioavailability of turmeric as well.

SO WHY IS TURMERIC MILK GOOD FOR YOU?
TURMERIC:
Turmeric contains curcumin, the powerful antioxidant that stimulates the gallbladder and scavenges free radicals [1].
It helps cleanse the liver and purify blood, cultivates proper digestion, and facilitates elimination of waste. It also protects the gallbladder and stimulates circulation, and is a powerful anti-inflammatory [2].
Turmeric is a warming spice, and as such, helps boosts metabolism. Turmeric has a further action conducive to weight loss in that it is lipotropic [3].
Lipotropic herbs and whole foods encourage fat to exit the liver, which facilitates the metabolizing of fat [4].
GINGER:
Though best known for its anti-nausea properties, studies have found that ginger can increase metabolism by up to 20 % after eating [5], [6].
It helps produce more ‘friendly bacteria’ in intestines responsible for supplying many B vitamins, folic acid and vitamin K. Ginger additionally controls potentially harmful bacteria in the gut [7].
CARDAMOM:
In the traditional Indian medicine, Ayurveda, cardamom seeds are used as lozenges to suck on after meals to help digestion [8]. The tiny cardamom seeds also reduce mucus build-up caused by heavier foods and contain natural “carminatives”, which reduce gas [9].
Additionally, cardamom is alkaline, making it a natural antidote to acid [10]. As a member of the ginger family, cardamom has been used to make heavy and acidic foods easier to digest for more than 5,000 years [11].
Cardamom is also one of the richest sources of the phytochemical cineole, a potent antiseptic for bad breath, gum disease, sore throats, and respiratory conditions [12].
CINNAMON:
Cinnamon is similar to cardamom and ginger in properties and is also good for the circulation and the heart [13].
CLOVES:
As well as being high in antioxidants, cloves contain vitamins A and C, and the minerals potassium and iron [14].
In Ayurvedic medicine, cloves are believed to contain anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties. The strong sweet smell of cloves has led them to be used in breath freshening products [15].
MANUKA HONEY/RAW HONEY:
Raw honey is the pure honey extracted from beehives, complete with beneficial nutrients and enzymes [16].
Manuka honey has a unique non-peroxide anti-bacterial action (aka Unique Manuka Factor – UMF) [17]. This is potent type of anti-bacterial activity not present in any other types of honey, and allows it to get to bacterial infections deep within [18].
NOTE: Manuka honey that has a rating of 10 or more (the highest being 25 and the lowest being 0) is suitable for medicinal purposes [19].
