Brief Introduction
Astaxanthin is a natural nutritional component, it can be found as a food supplement. The supplement is intended for human, animal, and aquaculture consumption.
Astaxanthin is a carotenoid. It belongs to a larger class of phytochemicals known as terpenes, which are built from five carbon precursors; isopentenyl diphosphate and dimethylallyl diphosphate . Astaxanthin is classified as a xanthophyll (originally derived from a word meaning “yellow leaves” since yellow plant leaf pigments were the first recognized of the xanthophyll family of carotenoids), but currently employed to describe carotenoid compounds that have oxygen-containing moities, hydroxyl or ketone , such as zeaxanthin and canthaxanthin. Indeed, astaxanthin is a metabolite of zeaxanthin and/or canthaxanthin, containing both hydroxyl and ketone functional groups. Like many carotenoids, astaxanthin is a colorful, lipid-soluble pigment. This colour is due to the extended chain of conjugated (alternating double and single) double bonds at the centre of the compound. This chain of conjugated double bonds is also responsible for the antioxidant function of astaxanthin (as well as other carotenoids) as it results in a region of decentralized electrons that can be donated to reduce a reactive oxidizing molecule.
Function:
1.Astaxanthin is a powerful antioxidant and may protect against oxidative damage to body tissues.
2.Astaxanthin can improve the immune response by increasing the number of antibody producing cells.
3.Astaxanthin is a potential candidate to treat neurodegenerative disease such as Alzhimer and Parkinson diease.
4.Astaxanthin dan reduce UVA-light damage to skin such as sunburn, inflammation, ageing and skin cancer.
Application
1.When applied in pharmaceutical field, astaxanthin powder has the good function of antineoplastic;
2.When applied in health food field, astaxanthin powder is used as food additives for pigment and health care;
3.When applied in cosmetic field, astaxanthin powder has the good function of antioxidant and anti-aging;
4.When applied in animal feeds field, astaxanthin powder is used as animal feed additive to impart coloration, including farm-raised salmon and egg yolks.

Tired of spending all your money at Starbucks for the many delicious pumpkin spiced seasonal goodies? Well we can help satisfy at least one of those cravings with our simple pumpkin spice biscotti recipe!
Here’s what you’ll need:
2 Cups All Purpose Flour
3 Eggs
3/4 Cup Corn Meal
1 1/2 Tsp Baking Powder
1 Tsp Kosher Sea Salt
1 Cup Brown Sugar
1 Tsp Pumpkin Spice
Butter
3/4 Cup Pumpkin Seeds
Pumpkin Sugar
2 Large Mixing Bowl
Mixer/Whisk
Baking Sheet
Parchment Paper
Basting Brush
As always, preheat your oven! This recipe calls for 325 degrees.
Start by pouring 2 cups of flour, 3/4 cup corn meal, 1 1/2 Tsp baking powder, 1 Tbsp pumpkin spice, and 1 Tsp salt into your mixing bowl.
In your other mixing bowl crack 3 eggs and 1 cup of brown sugar. You can hand mix this but an electric mixer will save you time and effort as you want to beat it until it’s very light and fluffy. Slowly add your dry ingredients from the other bowl and continue to mix.
Mix in as many or as few pumpkin seeds as you’d like then let rest for 5 minutes.
After your dough has rested, lay down some parchment paper on your baking pan then form some dough into a large oval shaped log. It should be roughly 9 inches by 3 inches and if you’d like to cook more than one at a time, make sure they are evenly spaced throughout the pan.
Cook for 35 minutes or until lightly browned then remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes.
Using a serrated knife, cut the log crosswise into 3/4 inch thick diagonal slices. Beat one egg and use a brush to lightly coat each slice. Powder lightly with your pumpkin sugar then pop back into the oven for another 25 minutes or until golden brown.

This very short clip shows the freshly collected raw propolis we scraped off the frames and boxes after honey collection. It is not clean nor purified, just as is from the hive. Below are some definitions and uses of propolis. Let us know if you are interested in more detailed videos of propolis uses and we will create them as required. Propolis is one of the most powerful natural shields to be found in nature: anti-infective, antibiotic, antiviral, fungicidal, powerful antioxidant, help to prevent cancer. Its effects are more powerful in combination with other medicinal plants such as Echinacea and Garlic for stimulating the immune system and protecting the body from infection.

Propolis is a resinous mixture that honey bees collect from tree buds, sap flows, or other botanical sources. It is used as a sealant for unwanted open spaces in the hive. Propolis is used for small gaps (approximately 6 millimeters (0.24 in) or less), while larger spaces are usually filled with beeswax. Its color varies depending on its botanical source, the most common being dark brown. Propolis is sticky at and above room temperature, 20 °C (68 °F). At lower temperatures, it becomes hard and very brittle. For centuries, beekeepers assumed[1] that bees sealed the beehive with propolis to protect the colony from the elements, such as rain and cold winter drafts. However, 20th century research has revealed that bees not only survive, but also thrive, with increased ventilation during the winter months throughout most temperate regions of the world.
Propolis is now believed to:[2]
reinforce the structural stability of the hive;
reduce vibration;
make the hive more defensible by sealing alternate entrances;
prevent diseases and parasites from entering the hive, and to inhibit fungal and bacterial growth;[3]
prevent putrefaction within the hive. Bees usually carry waste out of and away from the hive. However, if a small lizard or mouse, for example, finds its way into the hive and dies there, bees may be unable to carry it out through the hive entrance. In that case, they would attempt instead to seal the carcass in propolis, essentially mummifying it and making it odorless and harmless. (Wikipedia – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Propolis)
