Resveratrol is an active component extracted from Huzhang (Polygonum cuspidatum) in China.

Diese Versuche führen dazu, diese Stimulanzwirkung auch beim Menschen zu vermuten. Es wird ausdrücklich davor gewarnt, Epimedium-Arten für den Menschen als stimulierendes Mittel einzusetzen, denn es gibt noch keine Gefahrenabschätzung. Dagegen wird ausdrücklich davor gewarnt, Getränke oder Nahrungsmittel Epimedium-Auszügen während der Schwangerschaft und der Stillzeit zu verwenden.

J. A. Duke und E. S. Ayensu schreiben in Medicinal Plants of China, dass die Einnahme von Extrakten aus den Blättern von Epimedium grandiflorum die Häufigkeit von Kopulationen bei Tieren erhöht, aber dies sind rein Ergebnisse aus Tierversuchen.
