[What is Kava?]
Kava, also known as piper methysticum, kava kava, and ‘awa, is a small shrub native to the islands in the South Pacific. The root and stems are made into a non-alcoholic, psychoactive beverage that has been used socially and ceremonially for hundreds of years in Hawaii, Fiji, and Tonga.
Kava is traditionally prepared by placing ground root and stem into a porous sack, submerging in water, and squeezing the juice into a large, carved, wooden bowl. Coconut half-shell cups are dipped and filled — punch bowl style. After drinking a cup or two a feeling of heightened attention combined with relaxation begins to come on. Although it is soothing, it is unlike alcohol in that thoughts remain clear. The flavor is largely inoffensive, but some find that it takes getting used to; it really depends on your preference for earthy flavors.
[Kava is Safe to Use]
The safe and effective benefits of kava to relieve symptoms of anxiety were also supported in a meta-analysis, a systematic statistical review of seven human clinical trials published in 2000 in the Journal of Clinical Psychopharmacology, and again in a similar critical review in 2001. The reviews did not find significant adverse effects related to liver toxicity.
In conclusion, the liver is affected by many substances, including prescription and non- prescription drugs, as well as alcohol, which is a major cause of liver damage. We must be aware that herbs are potent medicines, to be treated with the appropriate respect regarding potential interactions and toxicity, including to the liver. On the other hand, Kava kava’s margin of safety far surpasses that of it’s pharmaceutical equivalent.
[Function]
Kava’s can help offset a number of problems, most notably stress, anxiety, and disrupted sleep patterns. However, kava’s anxiolytic (anti-panic or anti-anxiety agent) and calming properties can offset many other stress and anxiety related ailments.

3 WAYS TO ENERGIZE YOUR BREAKFAST SMOOTHIE:
==========================================
Not too keen on caffeine? No worries. There are other natural ways to give your breakfast smoothie an extra power zing.
BEE POLLEN:
This supplement is rich in vitamins and minerals, enzymes and amino acids. Bee pollen is known for its ability for boosting energy, promoting longevity [1], and an excellent source of protein [2]. When adding to breakfast smoothies, the recommendation is that you use bee pollen granules.
Add one teaspoon and blend with the other ingredients. (Note: bee products are not recommended for people who suffer from asthma.)[3]
GINSENG:
Frequently used to fight fatigue and flagging strength, ginseng is a good way of creating an energy smoothie [4].
Panax ginseng, known for its energizing and adaptogenic properties, has been found to have a positive effect on athletic performance, reaction time and visual/motor coordination [5].
Available in standardized extract form, a suggested amount of ginseng to be added a smoothie is 20-30 drops [6].
GLUTEN FREE OAT BRAN:
While nutritionally similar whole wheat, structurally, oats have their kernels whereas wheat have their kernels removed [7]. Adding oats to your smoothie is an excellent way of boosting its protein and fibre content. Moreover, oats are a good source of zinc, vitamins and iron too [8].
The fibre in oat bran is the soluble kind, which has been found to lower cholesterol [9].
Sub the espresso in the above recipe with 2 tablespoonfuls of gluten free oat bran.
TRY THIS SIMPLE BREAKFAST SMOOTHIE RECIPE FOR AN ENERGY BOOST:

Health benefits of acai berry
Acai berry has very good levels of anti-oxidants, minerals, and vitamins that have health benefiting and disease preventing properties.
Unlike other berries and fruits, acai has high caloric values and fats. 100 g of berries provide about 80-250 calories depending up on the preparation and serving methods. In fact, fresh acai berry has been the staple nutritious diet of native Amazonian for centuries.
Acai berry contains many polyphenolic anthocyanin compounds like resveratrol, cyanidin-3-galactoside, ferulic acid, delphinidin, petunidin as well as astringent pro-anthocyanidin tannins like epicatechin, protocatechuic acid and ellagic acid
Primary research studies suggest that ellagic acid in acai has anti-proliferative properties by virtue of its ability to directly inhibit DNA binding of certain carcinogens (nitrosamine toxins in the food).
Acai berry is also rich in medium chain fatty acids like oleic acid (omega-9) and linoleic acid (omega-6). These compounds help reduce LDL-cholesterol level and raise good HDL-cholesterol levels in the body and thus help cut down heart disease risk. Additionally, the essential fats in acai help prevent skin dryness by maintaining adequate moisture in the skin.
Acai pulp has good levels of dietary fiber. Adequate fiber in the diet helps clear cholesterol through the stools.
ORAC value (oxygen radical absorbance capacity) of acai berry is thought to be at mid-level range for fruits, higher than that of oranges but less than pomegranate. USDA so far not validated exact ORAC value for acai.
Acai berries contain a good amount of minerals like potassium, manganese, copper, iron, and magnesium. Potassium is an important component of cell and body fluids that helps controlling heart rate and blood pressure. Manganese is used by the body as a co-factor for the antioxidant enzyme, superoxide dismutase.
Further, they are rich in B-complex vitamins and vitamin-K. Contain very good amounts of niacin, vitamin B-6 and riboflavin. These vitamins are function as co-factors and help body in the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats
